Will the Clippers resign T. Wallace?

I don’t know what the story was behind his contract or why he hasn’t been resigned. But I hope the Clippers resign him soon. His performance was critical to our performance.

Here is where that is at (I think):
1) We are still negotiating with his agent, per Doc a few days ago.

2) If we sign him to the end of this season right now, we lose rights to him and he becomes an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season; however if we don't sign him right now, he becomes a restrict free agent at the end of the season and we have the right to match any offer on him - this is why we have not signed him yet, as we lose our edge in the negotiations if we do.

3) Apparently we made him an offer of 4 years, but it was not guaranteed, and he rejected it. He wants more, and it's unclear if it's a money issue or a guarantee issue or both.

So that's where that seems to be right now. Trying to hash out a deal, if we can.

Then why the fuck would we even entertain the idea of signing him for the rest of the season? That would be stupid.

Because if we play Austin 39 minutes a game we are not making the playoffs.   Evans is supposed to practice this week.  Maybe him coming back will solve the problem.  Or maybe Kilpatrick practicing and playing will solve the problem.  Or Thornwell's improved play may make Wallace expendable.  Who knows.  What we do know is that the Clippers did not want to give Wallace guaranteed years on a contract and that is what held it up.  Save room for the two new draft picks and signing Bradley as a free agent.  Maybe.  I think whatever the solution is the immediate problem is winning enough games to make the playoffs.

If Wallace's contract demands are too high I say we sign CJ for the rest of the year.

When is AC's season over?

Ty can come back and play after the G league season ends, with no effect on his free agency( i.e. he remains restricted)

He won't be elibile for the playoffs without a contract.

Gotta figure out a way to get this done and get Jr. out of here.

Bradley and Wallace are nice pieces to have.

We can sign him for the rest of the season PLUS additional years just fine. What I should have said is if we sign him, then we need to sign him for a while because if we just sign him until the end of the year he will just walk.

He'll become a RFA thus summer and we will likely match, or we sign him to 3-4 year deal before another team makes an offer. BTW our 4 yr offer was for the league min and the Clips expectes him to reject it

Why not give Ty 3 years/$35 million, which is Austin's contract, since Austin is his closest comp. Same size, same PER, two years younger, both less than 15 starts in their year 23 season.

Using Jr. as a salary metric isn't really a good basis for what any team should do sad

Dude should be offered rookie-scale $ like $2M.

Wow. This explains why we haven't signed him. The NBA needs to look at this rule, you would think it would be the other way around.

It's this new two-way contract thing. It's working different than they predicted. It's working pretty well actually, but apparently they didn't really think through the ramifications of a team wanting to sign the guy at the end of the contract. I think they were thinking it was a means of getting more NBA playing time for guys playing in the D-League without taking up player spots.

The Times said Caruso used up his two way time with the Lakers so he could not play with them any more until the G-league playoffs were concluded.  Then he could rejoin them and play the rest of the season.  It didn't say they had to give him an NBA contract to do that.  Maybe it will be similar for Wallace.

^Keep the 2 way contract but change the max games to what ever the NBA team needs him.

I'm not sure why he would be a UFA if we signed him to regular contract, arent all players under a certain service time restricted assuming certain qualifying offers are made?

That is not enough motivation to give up RFA rights on Wallace for me. We aren't championship contenders and if we miss the playoffs we actually get a lottery shot at a top 3 pick, however small it might be......some chance is better than no chance.

That sounds like the same thing that happened with 2nd round picks under the 1999 CBA.

They thought it would be a good way to cost control 2nd round picks, by limiting the max salary to the MLE, for what a 2nd round pick could be offered when his contract was up.

They didn't think of the case when a team wanted to pay a FA who was a 2nd round pick more than than the MLE, because he was going to be a great player, and paying him more would still be beneficial to the team.

Like how the Warriors couldn't match offers for Gilbert Arenas after his 2nd round pick contract was up.

I think playoffs would be fun too, but I kinda am ok if we don't make it as well because there are long term benefits to that. So, I'm good either way. It's actually a nice position to be in as a fan of this franchise right now.

Playoffs could be fun if we are at full strength. Otherwise they'll be embarrassing

And u save Boban for playoff match up. I’m ok w Doc not playing him much but in playoffs it could be a difference maker in 1-3 games...

He's had one chance and killed it. The other time he got a couple of minutes and the team did well. If we wait to use him for the playoffs we may not make the playoffs. Unleash Boban!

I think the Clippers are ok just waiting it out.  He'll be back on the 24th.
