Getting West is the best news... we need it badly... he knows how to evaluate talent. I'm sure if he likes someone in this draft, we will trade for that player.. he will find a way.. we are not that far away.

Wow. This is awesome. It's official, and so soon too. I'm wondering if his son will join and then relieve Doc of his GM role. The Warriors had no identity before West joined them. There's a lot he has to help fix for the Clippers, but I'm glad he's around to give some guidance. Even if Doc remaines President of Basketball Ops, we now have West that can say "sign that guy, stupid."

I'm curious Mistwell - do you fall for other clickbait when you search the internet? Are you clicking on all of those fake news articles with multiple pop up ads? Because that is the equivalent of what you are doing here.

"Days later"? That first post was from May 1st - long before this was even a rumor, let alone reality. Your obnoxious homerism was bad enough, now you're a liar too.

The typical front office guy would just stay put with the Dubs, show up to the office twice a week, collect fat checks, and hoist championships. Jerry West is all about the rebuild process. That's what gets his juices flowing. Once the Warriors got KD there's literally nothing for him to do up there. If he turns around the Clippers it would arguably be his biggest and greatest feat. Him being the actual "logo" of the league would be solidified.

There's also reports that West had a falling out with ownership in GS. From the sound of things, their arrogant tech-dudebro owner has probably convinced himself that he is the reason for the Warriors' success and he no longer needs Jerry. Good luck with that once the team Jerry built for him starts to decline.

I think so too, Lacob seems like the kind of guy that can't help but take credit for their success. I don't think West cares too much about that, but I can see the Warriors guys politely not wanting him back so they get more of the credit than West for this team. In LA I think Ballmer will value West much more.

You think I should just ignore VFHS? I don't. He has something useful to say sometimes.  He's shown he's a genuine fan, despite being a grumpy ass motherfucker who hates CP3 and Doc Rivers with a white hot passion of a thousand suns. I mean I tried to fuck with him for a year, and he seemed to make it through OK. I think he's earned a spot here.  Dick that he is.  But then, I can be a dick too, so who am I to judge?

Do you guys think Jerry West can talk CP and Blake to take less than max deal so we can fill out the roster?

Even if they took less than the max we still would not have cap space to "fill out the roster", unless they were taking DRASTICALLY less than max.  We already have Crawford, Rivers, and DJ signed to larger deals (with DJ being a very large deal).

West joined the Warriors on 2011-05-20.  So that timing lines up.

I still like the scenario of Sign and Trade Redick and Austin Rivers for Melo, if that's possible (not sure if you can combine players in a sign and trade under the new CBA). JC still has one year on his contract after this so he is harder to move, but not impossible.  It might have to be Austin and Crawford for Melo, and sign and trade Redick for Lee, to make it work (might need to include one of our rookies in that deal, which I'd be OK with as we're just not going to ever use them I suspect). Not sure New York is up for that but given their interest last season and the risks involved with Melo, they might be willing to do it.

If they are willing to do that, that would leave our bench pretty darn thin but a much improved starting 5. And then there is the question as to whether Wade wants to play here for the MLE if Melo and Lee also came here. CP3, Wade, Melo, BG, and DJ is a very good starting lineup.  Our bench would have Lee and Johnson, and if they are willing to stay another year Luc, Speights, Felton and/or Bass (and our two rookies of course). Though I expect if Melo, Lee and Wade did come here and BG and CP3 signed again, we could attract some better free agents at the vet minimum to fill out that bench better.

Does that lineup beat GSW? Probably not.  But I think it's enough to get to the WCF to find out. And it also would put us in a position to trade BG for a sign and trade deal on Lebron next year.

I don't think any of this is crazy unrealistic.  It's not on the probable side of things, but I think it's within the realm of potentially doable.

JC only has a partially guaranteed contract after this year.

Ah that makes him easier to move.  I can see New York doing a deal of Austin and JC for Melo, and sign and trade Redick for Lee, given that fact. Or however those pieces need to be juggled, I think that puts it more into the realm of possible.

Jerry West should prepare championship belts which have both the Clippers logo, and the NBA Logo, on them.

Don't let Ballmer try to sneak a DOS logo on there.

Ya, I'm not sure we can absolutely infer that West thought highly of DJ. I remember a lot of ppl thinking it was more strategic at that time for GSW, since I believe we would have tried to offer DJ less. So on one hand, you could end up with DJ which wasn't terrible at the time. On the other hand, you force your division rivals to open their checkbooks. They forced us to bet on DJ.

Might have to let Doc go to be truthful. I don't mind Austin on the team at all but this family shit really screws up the team. How in the hell is Jerry going to say to Doc, "Lets dump your son and Crawford for Melo". Or "You need to give the back up big minutes to Stone and Brice"..  I can keep going for days. All bullshit aside.. Lets take off the rose colored glasses for a minute. I love the Jerry West move to death just like the rest of you guys but how in the f*ck is this shit going to work when Doc traditionally does every opposite of what Jerry West is known for?

-Jerry is always looking for the next good or great young guy- Doc doesn't play young guys

-Jerry dreams of the draft and is a draft aficionado- Doc is shit at drafting, gives away 1st rounders, and never plays the players he drafts

-Jerry wants a quality bench that has length and athleticism- Doc "Where's my old Celtics-geritol gang at? Holla if ya hear me!!"

-Something has got to give. I could see if their traits were similar but they're the polar opposite. This is a water and oil combination at its finest
