2018 Summer moves

I know most of us here, want us to wait for 2019 for the crop of FA's, however I don't see Balmer & West going into next season w/ a roster that can't compete for a championship. I really feel they are going to make a big splash and have a roster to compete for a championship. Thoughts?

I think between eating Doc's last year at $10 million and trying to get back value for Austin, the team will move Austin. Best case scenario is he opts out because the return on him would just be a longer term contract for a dud like Allen Crabbe.

Gallo has no trade value and we are set at SF with Tobias. Montrez is great. We dont' have a backup SF. I would use both draft picks for long wings.

Next, clear up the logjam at guard. I would stick with Beverley, Teodosic, Williams, Wallace, Thornwell and Evans. Let Bradley walk.

At center, either DJ opts in or let him walk and sign a cheap starter like Dedmon.

If a star like Kawhi or PG becomes available, I would offer anyone except Tobias and only 1 draft pick.

^ I realize that Baby, however it's hard for me to believe that Ballmer & West will be ok not to build a team to compete for a championship in the 2018-2019 season. Especially after not making playoffs this season.

Biggest things to watch for this off-season for us are:

1. What happens with DJ

2. Do we re-sign Harrell (prob yes since he is an RFA) and/or Bradley (not sure on him)

3. Do we bring back Doc for the last year of his contract or do we let him go and eat the last year

4. Does Austin opt in and if he does do we move him

5. Which direction do we go with our 2 first rounders, do we package them to try and trade up or stay put and if so, who do we take

6. Can we dump Gallo on anyone or not

So, mostly dealing with in-house stuff.

2019 is when we can make a free agent splash with outside free agents

If Jr opts in, there’s no doubt he will be traded. West & Co know that we can’t continue to have smallish guards that can’t play either defense or score the ball.

Traded how? Nobody will take him without unloading a bad contract. Austin's worth is probably half his salary.

The team isn't going to fire doc. That's not even remotely realistic. That's just a fantasy for some fans who like to blame the coach for everything. Doc is getting a lot of credit for the job he's done with the terrible injury situation. Austin isn't going to opt out either. His agent will probably put out feelers to guage interest, there will be some rumors on Twitter, but he won't find any big money out there for his bench-level talent. I don't see much chance for any big moves for the Clips this summer. Just keeping flexible cap space will be the priority. Maybe they can sign and trade someone for fit and flexibility. Can we do that with Bradley? Maybe we can move one draft pick. We should if we could. We need to get a good wing. We don't need two more rookies and doc won't play them much anyway.

If we've decided we're out of the 2019-20 market for free agents, then it will be pretty easy to trade Austin for an existing contract that extends beyond that date. Lots of teams want to clear cap space for that market and Austin as an expiring larger contract (who is not, in himself, completely useless as a player despite being overpaid) is attractive for another team to unload a longer contract.

The problem is of course killing our flexibility for that crucial free agent market.

So we could probably get someone like, for example, Evan Fournier (a decent but not amazing SF who is paid about $5M more than Austin and signed for one more year) if Orlando wanted to clear some cap space for that year. They'd have to take Wes Johnson in the deal, but as he is also expiring they probably would...again, if they wanted to clear cap space.

Orlando is not a particularly great example for this, but it's illustrative of the point.

When Austin opts in (when not if) we can at least trade him for an equaly bad contract that someone else is just as unhappy about as we are with Ausin, but it can be a different type of player that we at least have a need for and can use. It can be a big or a sharp shooter or a defensive specialist, that sort of thing.

Right now, I'd be happy with a bowl of refried frijoles in exchange.

Nothing matters if Ballmer doesn't grow a set of testicles and fire Doc. Either that, or the Knicks bail us out by offering Doc their coaching job. Any move we could make would be wasted on Doc's atrocious "coaching" and blatant nepotism with Austin. And spare me the excuse that Ballmer would have to eat $10 million to fire Doc. He's the richest owner in pro sports - money is no object. And surely he's smart enough to understand the Sunk Cost Fallacy.

If Austin doesn't opt out and we can't get anything of value for him in a trade, he needs to be sent down to the D-League for the season. If nothing else, maybe he'd get some humility and finally start to improve as a player.

If they're dumb enough to hire Doc, I hope Giannis forces a trade out of there. He's too good to waste his prime on the likes of Kidd and Doc.

We need to tank next year for real.  And before Mistwell comes in and calls the draft a crapshoot.  I'm not saying rebuild through the draft.  I'm saying we need a high draft pick to give us a tradeable asset that can bring back a star.  Basically we should recreate the Elton Brand situation.  Remember when we traded the second overall pick for Elton Brand?

Why on Earth would we need to do that when we have cap space to sign a star outright next summer?

You do both. On draft night 2019 Gallo's contract will have one year left. You package him and the high draft pick for a star. Then you still have enough cap space for another star.

Yeah.  It basically allows them to tell their own story (they recreate taped interviews) while at the same time acknowledging how everyone involved is full of shit.  It's really well done.

How old are you?

I've tapped out on the superhero/popcorn movies unless my daughter drags me.

I did enjoy Ready Player One. The plot wasn't original but it had a lot of throwback references to the 80s and 90s. I can't believe Spielberg directed it. I thought he was too established for that kind of movie.

Summer moves... Like most threads on this board, they get altered to another topic of discussion. Which is fine. As long as it’s not a Trapp/VFHS fiasco of who gets what side of the bed....... jk...

And Sicario 2: Soldado (not to be confused with the Scarface remake they're also putting out this Summer). And another Tomb Raider revamp. And another Robin Hood. And Rampage, a Dwayne Johnson movie based on the 80s video game. And a Barbie movie. And The Purge 4. And "Meg" which is Jason Statham vs a giant shark (I am not kidding).

Yes I read the complete unabridged works. However, as this is a Will Ferrell comedy losing based on the concept, I doubt it will much resemble the books.

Ugh! I saw the last Jurassic Park movie and I was ready to walk out half way through.

IT IS THE SAME DAMN MOVIE EVERY TIME!!!!

Each sequel has a new group of greedy businessmen who think they've figured out how to control the dinosaurs this time around. Of course they can't and chaos ensues. The movie ends with the park in shambles and the hero and heroine narrowly escaping, vowing never to return.

Is repeating the plot in every sequel worse than the Spiderman movies where they relaunch the series every couple of years with a new Spiderman?

I think relaunches are worse.

At least with sequels, there can be inside jokes from previous movies because the characters are the same.

What movie from Mistwell's list is likely to have annoying NBA Playoffs promos tied in?  A "blockbuster" is the type of movie that will have the large advertising budget for these commercials, and for the air time during the NBA Playoffs or NBA Finals.

For example, during the 2004 Playoffs, there was a TNT commercial that said "There's a twister in Los Angeles", and they showed Kobe Bryant making a spinning layup.

They also showed Latrell Sprewell dunking into a tornado.

During the 2010 Finals, they kept showing promos for Adam Sandler's Grown Ups, with the joke about there being a chemical in the pool that turns blue if you pee in the pool.

"Fantastic Four" was also an annoying promo during the 2004 playoffs.  That was tied in to the L.A. Lakers.

During the 2006 Playoffs, when the Pistons were losing the series to the Heat, despite the Pistons having the best record in the league, someone said the Pistons were Poseidon (another movie at that time).

Sicario is a great movie.

It needed a sequel?

Sicario was unequivocally better than anything else on the list so there is that if we're not being too picky.
