I don't know what ELO means but it seems to be odds related.

What do you think it means?

Elo is a guy's name, I feel like it shouldnt be all caps, unless this particular ELO is a different system whose name is an actual acronym.

Did you click on the picture in the Tweet?

So the guy named a system after himself?

What exactly does it mean?

I reposted the picture from the Tweet below:

The Elo system was originally invented for chess by a guy with the last name Elo in 1960, it was built on another chess system from earlier. It has been the official competitive Chess rating system since 1970.  But it can be applied to basically any other competition as well.

For basketball its biggest weakness like a lot automated systems, is teams that coast or tank games in the regular season.  It's largely based on an assumption that competitors take every game seriously, which works better in something like competitive chess than regular season basketball or international soccer.

I think its also better for individual competition, because dont need to worry about personnel changes between matches.
